5 apps that help you sell your stuff

Are you packing up a household or doing a major decluttering project and find you have a lot of stuff you no longer want or need?  Sure there are a lot of general online resources like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace or eBay where you can sell just about anything, but did you also know there are resale apps out there that allow you to reach a specific audience of buyers? There are great ways to sell your grandmother’s china, a child’s old violin and last season’s designer purse.

Check out these five apps that will help you sell a specific category of items to a specific group of buyers.

Vintage & Used Furniture - Chairish

Chairish is an online vintage furniture, art and home accessories sales service.  Listing an item is free and there is a minimum listing price of $25.  If you need help, Chairish can suggest a price that’s likely to help you sell your piece quickly. It must approve the listing, based on your pictures and the demand for your item. You keep up to 80% of the final sale.

Musical Instruments - Reverb

Do you have a guitar sitting in the back of your closet collecting dust?  Reverb is a specialty app that sells musical instruments, DJ equipment, amps, and audio gear. It is a community of music makers where buyers can shop by instrument. You can list as many items as you want for free, and when they sell the company gets a small cut.

Fashion - Poshmark

If you have used clothing in excellent condition, Poshmark is a great app to use. Women’s, men’s, kids...clothing, shoes or accessories, Poshmark allows you to list the item for free in its marketplace. It does charge a fee when you sell the item. As a seller you can enjoy free pre-paid shipping labels along with free credit card processing. Poshmark also bills itself as a connected shopping experience. They have an active community of millions of stylists who create personal styles and curate looks for their shoppers.

Textbooks - Cash4Books

Ready to ditch those college marketing or finance textbooks that are sitting in your bookcase? Enter the book’s ISBN code and the Cash4Books app will give you an estimated value. If you accept it they provide a pre-paid label, which you use to mail the book to them. Assuming your book passes inspection, you will receive the quoted value.

Electronics - Gazelle

Do you have a drawer full of electronics that you have outgrown?  Once you remove all the personal data stored on your old iPad, mobile phone or laptop you can try to sell the item using an app like Gazelle.  Gazelle is a website that purchases, refurbishes and re-sells used tech. You answer some questions, and if Gazelle wants your item they will make you an offer.
