5 Refreshingly Chic Ways to Deck the Halls

It’s time to get festive!  Light those pine-scented candles, deck the mantle with a pinecone garland and get out those reindeer dessert plates.

Is this the year you add a little refresh to your holiday decorating? Even if you are a traditionalist, we have some ways to shake it up and provide fun seasonal and festive touches to your home decor this holiday season.

#1 Put greenery where you least expect it
Greenery is not just for mantles. A lush strand of garland can look good anywhere — over a banister, threaded through a chandelier or even draped over a large mirror. A trick to making garland look extra full is to overlay a faux strand with a nicer, real garland.  Don’t get stuck thinking that wreaths are just for the outdoors. We love to use wreaths indoors, adhered with Command hooks, on kitchen cabinets and indoor windows with beautiful plaid ribbons. Create a focal point by hanging a wreath above your fireplace, on a coat hook in your foyer, or on a headboard in your bedroom.

#2 Create little moments with holiday vignettes
Grouping a bunch of smaller items together to create little intentional moments throughout your home can make a big impact.  “Micro decorating” with vignettes is an affordable way to bring charm and holiday character to a space. Try building a mini Christmas village on your kitchen counter with bottlebrush trees and mini wooden houses. Other seasonal vignettes could include a dough bowl filled with ornaments and a bar cart with apothecary-jarred candy.

#3 Find Your Color Story

The key to an elegant space is opting for a curated color story. Sticking to a color palette of two or three colors makes decorating easy. Let those few colors flow throughout your home, which will make your entire space look pulled together. The reds and greens of a traditional Christmas palette don’t have to be your only option. Consider embracing a fun new palette like pink, orange and cream.  Or how about white, gold and rose gold.

#4 Make a nonworking fireplace feel festive

There’s something warm and welcoming about a fireplace, even one that doesn’t work or gets little use. Your fireplace should never have to look empty or lonely. The obvious solution is to fill up the space with pillar candles. We prefer birch wood flame-less ones like these that give you the effect of warmth and fire without the hassle and worry. They work via remote control and you can schedule them to automatically turn off. You can also get creative with stacked birch logs and ornaments. Or fill the fireplace with pretty wrapped gifts. A string of lighted lanterns or a large poinsettia in a festive pot also can make a space feel intentional and pretty.

#5 Spice up your tablescaping

Tablescaping, the art of dressing a table, is a creative outlet which allows you to pick a theme and color palette to show off your style. This holiday try injecting personality into meals and gatherings by putting your own spin on the classic Christmas look.  Want to create a maximalist glam winter wonderland with metallics and an abundance of green florals?  Or is embracing a more minimalist, Scandinavian scene with pastel snowy wooden houses and miniature fir trees your thing?  Do what feels right for you! A big trend this year is to look to nature and bring the outdoors in by creating a living runner with loose sprigs and branches.
