Even holiday decorations aren’t immune to seasonal trends and viral fads. If you spend just a few minutes on the holiday decorating side of social media, you are bound to see asymmetrical cedar garlands and velvet bows everywhere this year.
In honor of the upcoming holiday, we are highlighting a few of our favorite popular seasonal decorations that are trending right now. Just a word of caution though holiday decorating trends come and go, so invest in pieces you love and they will never go out of style.
So what’s hot for 2024?
Velvet and bows, bows and more bows. One of the hottest styles is the proliferation of bows in any fabric, but particularly velvet. The velvet bow decorating trend is about unstructured bows that hang with a very casual, relaxed look. Pick ribbons that coordinate with your existing decor and then tie them on branches, wreaths, banisters, and garlands. We just bought these small ones for our tree.

Velvet in general is having a huge moment in warm, spicy shades and jewel tones. You can see it in tree skirts, ornaments, pillows, and holiday figures like nutcrackers and reindeer.
Sustainability and natural elements. This is a trend that has been growing strong the last few years. Whether it is the “Hygge” approach to Christmas or Cottagecore Charm, this movement focuses on simplicity, coziness, and natural handmade eco-conscious elements. Think foraged greenery and pinecones, dried fruits, ornaments made from felt and wood, and sustainable wrapping using brown paper and twine. These elements add a rustic, personalized charm while being environmentally friendly.

Retro and sparkly. Glittering ornaments, disco-inspired decor, and metallic accents are bedazzling the season. Disco balls, in particular, are really having a moment and can be placed anywhere from tree toppers to tree branches to fireplace mantels. It’s a return to a vintage aesthetic with metallic trees and tinsel. Ornate Bridgerton- inspired decorations are also trending.

Nostalgic touches. People are looking to create spaces that evoke cherished holiday memories. Classic nutcrackers, village scapes, hand-painted figurines, candy cane motifs and plaid evoke a cozy, traditional vibe that is reminiscent of holidays past.
