Design trends to love in 2025

Just because something is trending, does not mean you have to embrace it. Decorate your space in a way that makes YOU happy. However, it is always fun to track home design trends. What I like to do is focus on a few trends that speak to me and incorporate them in a way that won’t feel dated in a few years. So with that said, here are three design trends I’m excited about heading into 2025.

Rich and Earthy Colors

This trend is a reversal from the cold gray and white rooms we have seen flourish over the last decade. Warmer and more saturated tones give a space a cozy, grounded feeling that is both modern and timeless.  We are here for the resurgence of jewel-box colors and earthier tones like deep greens, plums, terracotta and moody blues. It’s not a surprise that the very rich mocha mousse was named Pantone’s color of the year for 2025.

These richer colors can be used to “color drench” a room, a beautiful and dramatic statement where you paint the room, walls, trim and ceiling the same color. Personally, I love seeing these bold new colors in upholstered furniture and statement pieces, balanced with softer neutrals that help lighten them up.

Lived-In, Collected Spaces

Many call it the “Nancy Meyers effect”, which is inspired by the cozy, elegant homes seen in Nancy Meyers' films like Something's Gotta Give and It's Complicated. This design trend highlights warmth, timeless charm, and effortless sophistication. Think vintage furniture, rich textures, and layered details that create a warm, welcoming, lived-in feel. One of my favorite trends is mixing vintage finds and new items that each home curates individually. This movement shies away from staged homes and gravitates towards spaces that tell a story, have character, history and a more personalized aesthetic.

Patterns Everywhere

Pattern is such an easy way to inject color and personality into a space. It also plays into another current trend of maximalism and embracing all things eclectic and personalized.  Patterns are popping up more frequently everywhere, not just in upholstered pieces. We are seeing rooms “drenched” in patterns, from wallpaper to bedding, from window treatments to rugs. This pattern drenching trend can be done with just one pattern or a combination of many, transforming a simple room into a dramatic environment that feels both fun and welcoming. When introducing multiple patterns it can get chaotic, so remember to use patterns of varying scales to add dimension to your scheme. The right contrast paired with a complimentary color palette, will create a pattern drenched design that feels eclectic and fun.
