Nine Unexpected Places to Use Wallpaper

We here at Home Space Harmony love wallpaper and all the excitement it brings into a space. It's a wonderful tool for adding color, texture, and pattern to empty walls that need a lift. But if you don’t want to commit to covering a whole room, there are many ways to use wallpaper to breathe life into a space.

Pro Tip: Consider using peel and stick wallpaper.  It now comes in so many stylish and reasonably priced options.  It’s great for the renter to keep surfaces damage-free and for the DIYer to achieve a quick and easy room transformation.Spoonflower is one of my favorite, fun wallpaper sources that will help you up your interior design game.

Below are nine unexpected ways to use this limitless decor tool in your home to create beautiful accents:

#1 On the ceiling
Look up! When a wild print might be too much for four walls in a bedroom, papering the room’s 5th wall is a great compromise.

#2 As artwork
Wallpapered art canvases or framed prints are reasonably priced ways to get the look of expensive artwork. They also allow you to tie colors and themes from central spaces elsewhere into the décor.

#3 Behind bookshelves & china cabinets
Wallpapering the back of a shelf is a creative way to give a room a subtle pop of color or texture (think grasscloth) without overwhelming the rest of the décor. Another great use is in a glass front cabinet to make dishware pop.

Even if no one else sees the inside of your linen or bedroom closets, it will make you happy every time you open the door. Or make a great first impression by adding wallpaper to the backdrop in a hall or entrance closet.

#6  Kitchen or bathroom backsplash
Cover your backsplash in a pretty pattern as a cheaper (and less permanent) alternative to tile. If you are worried about splashes and grease ruining the paper, use vinyl paper or a layer of plexiglass to protect it.

#7 Base of a bar or kitchen island
This is a great way to add a lot of personality and character to a very public and central location. And it can be easily updated whenever needed.

Want to take your furniture to a new level without a huge commitment? Wallpaper is a great way to breathe new life into older pieces of furniture. You can wallpaper a headboard, the fronts of nightstand drawers or the inside of desk drawers  You can even paper an old washing machine or refrigerator to give it a fun update.
