7 Ideas To Transition Your Home from Summer to Fall

Fall is here and I just love the warmth and coziness this time of year brings to our home. There are so many creative ways to embrace the season and transition your space from summer to fall. Here are seven ideas to inspire you to bring in that touch of autumn.

Start with the entrance. Put houseguests in the right mindset before they even step foot inside your home with lanterns filled with baby boo pumpkins and a fall-inspired wreath made out of wheat, grapevine or dried flowers. Refresh your welcome mat with a fall doormat like this or this. Big trends now include layering a rug like this under your doormat.

Bring oversized branches and greenery inside. Branches in an oversized pitcher or container are a great way to bring the season inside. Faux stems like this or this will work as well.

Incorporate other organic and natural elements. Pumpkins, acorns, apples, leaves, mums and wheat are all perfect for giving the feeling of fall in the most organic way. Scatter them along your mantle, pile them in a shallow rustic dish for a coffee table centerpiece or use them in your tablescaping.

Add layers of texture and pattern. Think chunky sweater blankets, woven baskets, and anything plaid, wool, or cashmere. We love a faux sheepskin pelt thrown over a bench or a velvet coverlet on a bed like this. Soft layers instantly give you the feeling that fall’s cooler temperatures are on the way.

Use a fall-inspired palette on your soft goods.  Pillows and throws in dark reds, deep greens, oranges, browns and splashes of gold are easy and inexpensive ways to create a cozy fall vibe. Curtains, rugs and bedding are other items to consider switching out to “earthy” colors that better reflect the moodier season.

Bring in the scents of the season. Candles are one of the easiest ways to bring on the season. Pick out a few scents like cinnamon, pumpkin, vanilla, to experiment with and fill your home with the aroma of your favorite fall spices. Check out this  this pretty, gold pumpkin shaped candle.  Or you could try Pura, a smart home fragrance diffuser that comes in seasonal scents, and allows you to control amazing smells like pumpkin chai or velvet pear from your phone.

Use warm, rich metallics in your decor.  Brass candlesticks, copper pots, gold pumpkins all create rustic looks that offer a feeling of comfort we all crave during colder weather.  Metallics like gold, bronze, and copper bring out the radiance of the natural elements used in fall decorating.
